The Concrete Rodeo in Reedsport was today…and it was EPIC.
Massive numbers of people, about 40 competitors, and trick after mind-numbing trick.
The competition culminated with the 2nd SuperLoop Challenge. Last year no one made it around the Funnel Tunnel. This year at least 5 guys made it! Over 100 times in the half hour competition!
Let’s see Packy was first, then Skeech, Rion, Lance, Geth…not sure if there was anyone else. I don’t think that Joseph (last years winner) made it around during the comp – he got to the park late and beat himself up trying to catch up. He did make it around just a couple weeks ago, though.
This guy Skeech (josh) from California was the frist one to really get it dialed in. He was looping the tunnel all day like it was nothing. I think he burnt himself out though cuz he was really tired for the comp. So tired that he puked after like 18 loops…then did 2 or 3 more before slamming hard and just bonking.
Packy was the first one to make it around, but was having trouble getting back into it just before the competition..Then he made his first attempt and kept up with pack throuhg like 20 loops.
Geth Noble took home the $1,000 check for doing the loop 32 times in 30 minutes. Yeah Geth!
Geth wasn’t the only star by any means. I’ll post some pics and a bit of video a bit later tonight soon eventually.
Can’t wait for the Florence version of the Rodeo tomorrow
“You come here, you play by the rules.” Apparently Tony has a his own set of rules – especially the ones that deal with gravity and physics. He’s killin it @ Burnside in this clip. This short clip shows him transfering from a Trestle to the little spine.
Out with the Jank, in with the Dank
Benchmark Skateparks is breathing some new life into the Hood River skatepark. They’ve taken out some of the jankier wooden elements reaplacing and adding to them with some sweet street-style concrete. The project is almost finished, although they may have been slowed down a bit by the recent rainstorms. I skated there like a week ago – and it was already feeling more connected and flowing.
Check out this 2 minute intro to the Burnside Skatepark. Not a whole lot of skating, but it’s always interesting to see what the non-skating media thinks about concrete parks – plus the reporter is hot. :p
A gang of pro skaters session on a goofy metal ramp in the city. Check out the rest of RobBrink.com, too. Lots of cool vids and text from a skateboard industry writer.
Chet Childress hosts a WallOfGray-style roadtrip through some of Oregon’s sickest ‘crete. Stops at Kfalls, Burnside, Medford, Donald, Aumsville, and Newberg.
“Get a crew together, pack your car up somehow, your tents, your sleeping bags – and hit Oregon. I’ve been all over this World skateboarding man, and there’s nothing like this place.” – Chet Childress
Still no skating for me recently, but there’s a new Wall of Gray skate vid! This one is full of trippy visuals and kaleidoscopic effects. Several parks in this one: Port Orford, Brookings, McMinville, Newberg, & Florence. Another killer track from DJ BC, too.
The Wall of Gray is under construction.
Adjusting. Upgrading. Re-Booting.
Now that I know what I want the site to look like, I’m re-setting the whole enchilda. All of the videos and pictures will be back Real Soon. I’m also adding a Message Board for Northwest Skaters.
Most of the Wall of Gray crew met up in Newberg the other day and we had two great sessions! Paul and Randi were working the coping – both doing new tricks and dropping new spots. Paul even grabbed a good grind down the rounded extension near the front of the park.
The footage for this Stitched Newberg video was taken with a single video camera then crammed together like a panoramic photo.
I’m usually no much for politics, but…
The asshats in Washington are in the process of passing the REAL ID act – basically a national ID card that will include an RFID chip full of your personal data. This card would be required to get a bank account, board a plane, or take advantage of governement programs. What it would REALLY be is a great way for the Gov’t to keep track of your every move, collect lots of juicy data about individuals, and generally erode your right to privacy.
It’s already passed the House and the Senate is due to vote this Tuesday – even though there has been NO debate & this bill has been tacked on another, totally unrelated bill.
Not sure what any of us peasants..err Americans…can do about it at this poin, but an e-mail or fax to your senator couldn’t hurt. I sent one through this site: UnRealID.com.
I found a great concrete skateboarding blog while stumbling around the InterWebs. Old Bastards. A crew of skaters in and around Sweden, or somewhere nearbouts.
Hard to tell what’s being talked about as I only speak English – but it’s obvious that this crew loves their concrete parks! Great photos and videos.
You can try this on-line translator from Swedish to English if you are language impaired like me.
